Independent elective study

Organize and carry out an independent elective study motivated by your academic and personal interests. The study may be carried out in Denmark or abroad.

MIND independent elective study

You can design an independent elective study based on preapproved courses or you may design your own study under the guidance of a supervisor from Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

The self designed study may be carried out as an independent research or review project of 2.5 or 5 ECTS credits.

Before you start working on the project, you must submit the signed project agreement to master@sund.ku.dk and pay the tuition fee.

Design a course that meet your specific needs. Select a specific topic together with your supervisor of choice, and agree on the objective, scope and size (2.5 or 5 ECTS) of the project.

You must provide a written account (two to three pages) of the objective, scope, size and content of the project, as well as a supplementary description of specific academic objectives. It is important that your your supervisor approve the project description and sign the project agreement.

The project may be:

  • based on experimental work in a laboratory or elsewhere
  • an academic review
  • based on calculations/modulations/simulations
  • based on conference activities
  • based on a course taken elsewhere (the course must be pre-approved by the Study Board)

For this type of individual elective study (5 ECTS), you must participate in a pre-approved course and write a report.

The Study Board has pre-approved some Atrium courses that can be used for this purpose (see list of pre-approved Atrium courses in the course curriculum).

if you wish to choose a course that is not pre-approved, please apply for approval from the Study Board before you start your individual study. Please send your application to master@sund.ku.dk.
